Halcrow delivers planning, design and management services for developing infrastructure and buildings worldwide. We contribute to the construction, operation and maintenance of the built environment, and the protection, enhancement and maintenance of the natural environment.
We take on the big issues that affect us all – water, transportation, energy, and creating places to live and work.
Our work is guided by our ethos, comprising our values, our code of conduct and our purpose: to sustain and improve the quality of people's lives.
We aim to make sure that the people who work with us – our employees, clients, partners and the wider communities we serve – see the evidence of our commitment to that ethos, in our day-to-day work and more broadly as a business.
On 10 November 2011, Halcrow was acquired by CH2M HILL, the global full-service consulting, design, construction, and operations firm. With almost 30,000 employees, our combined firms strengthen our leadership in water, environmental, transportation, and other markets.
Area of Expertise
We’re a multi-disciplinary consultancy with a hugely diverse range of design, engineering and business skills. Our focus is on the big issues society faces today – water, transportation, energy, and the need for places to live and work – and how these fit sustainably into the world around us.
We take on every element of an infrastructure project from pre-planning through to delivery and on-going maintenance and management.
We help deliver clean water to people's homes. We protect lives and property from the ever-increasing threat of flood. We improve the way people move from A to B, providing them with airports, ports, highways and railways. This is just a fraction of what we do as we strive to deliver the exceptional experiences our clients expect, helping them realise their own ambitions and achieve success.

Our Projects
From Abu Dhabi’s iconic Yas Island to multi-billion pound transport corridors in London and New York, we help deliver some of the world’s largest and most exciting infrastructure projects.
But we’re not solely about high-profile schemes. We work with local governments to regenerate urban environments, we protect communities from flooding, and we design the roads, bridges and buildings integral to our everyday lives.
Regardless of size, our projects are frequently complex. Our integrated approach means we can address all facets of a scheme – the environmental management and traffic planning of a road, alongside its design and construction, for example.
Our clients get a vision of ‘one Halcrow’ through seamless project delivery and a single point of contact. They recognise the lengths we go to deliver the exceptional experiences they've come to expect, and to help them realise their own success.
Our Sustainability Policy
Our purpose is to sustain and improve the quality of people’s lives.
We believe our greatest contribution to sustainability is through the long-term environmental outcomes of the projects undertaken for our clients.
In delivering these projects, we recognise the contribution to be made through our own operational efficiency, which is the subject of a separate corporate responsibility policy.
We have a reputation for honesty, integrity and delivering on our commitments. It is essential that we build on and enhance this reputation if we are to continue to deliver our purpose.
How we will deliver
High standards of sustainable development and environmental performance are fundamental to our purpose, and are an integral part of our business strategy. They require us to be profitable; to deliver projects and services to the best ethical and the most appropriate technical standards; to respect people and the environment; to listen to people both inside and outside the group; and to be transparent in what we are doing and how we are doing it. Our business success is founded upon recognising these imperatives
Halcrow Foundation
From disabled orphans in Romania and slum residents in Delhi to the disenfranchised in New York and the terminally ill in the UK, the Halcrow Foundation works to relieve suffering around the world.
We’re a UK registered charity (no. 1115729) established since 2005, initially in response to the Indian Ocean tsunami. We work in partnership with local non-governmental organisations, non profit making organisations and other charities across Asia, Africa, Europe and the Americas.
Our projects alleviate poverty and suffering caused by natural disaster or as a result of people’s social and economic conditions. This is achieved through the development of education, health and social services, the improvement of transport infrastructure, water supplies and other communal facilities and the promotion of self help activities.
Halcrow donates 1 per cent of its annual profits to the foundation, as well as making a significant contribution in terms of people’s time and its resources. Halcrow’s employees also raise funds through a range of sponsored activities and donate money through payroll giving. As of 2010, the value of all this help – in terms of cash and in kind support – exceeds £1.1 million. The general public are welcome to make a donation to support the foundation’s work.
Despite the support Halcrow extends to the foundation, the charity remains entirely independent of the company – Halcrow exerts absolutely no influence over the way the charity conducts its work.
