Hand Heart Pocket
They are an independent charity founded by the Freemasons of Queensland, with a history of charity and benevolence spanning more than 110 years. They help communities and individuals across Queensland and Papua New Guinea and give major donations to worthy charities that address areas of significant and under-resourced societal need.
For centuries Freemasons have used the symbols of hand, heart and pocket to pledge practical help, genuine empathy and financial generosity to those who need it most.
Inspired by this spirit of benevolence, today they promise that same support to Queensland and Papua New Guinea through Hand Heart Pocket the Charity of Freemasons Queensland.
Building on the legacy of Freemasonry, we empower, support and enable humanity in an ever-changing world. They believe that all people are equal, that human potential is worth nurturing, and that things can be changed for the better. These beliefs shape the goals of our giving and inspire us to make more possible.
Through engagement with the community, their members and the charity sector, they identify and support areas of broad societal need. Over the past few years, they have provided significant and flagship donations to a range of charity partners.
Through collaboration with Freemason Lodges, they also work to identify and support causes at a local level that need extra assistance – like the Joyful Foundation in North Queensland, equipment for local hospitals and respite centres and equipment to support the delivery of essential services such as Meals on Wheels, homeless and women’s shelters.
They believe in creating strength not dependence, so they give a hand up to communities, to other charities and to individuals.
Their values bind them together as an organisation and are reflected in everything they do:
Compassion: Alleviate suffering and misfortune
Integrity: Moral and ethical
Empowerment: Equip people directly or through others to lead better lives.
Their touchstone phrase: ‘You are important to us', underpins their caring culture.
At the heart of their philosophy is the understanding that, by helping others, they not only make the world a better place but also make themselves better people. See more
