The Chamber of Crafts is a body governed by public law, which performs a variety of tasks for its members.
The Handwerkskammer zu Leipzig represents the overall economic interests of its approximately 12,000 member companies with 90,000 employees and 3,500 apprentices. It is the starting point for all entrepreneurial concerns of the craft sector, from company foundations to company development, to company security and succession. Together with innards and Kreishandwerkerschaften, it also provides voluntary services as a self-government agency of the economy, fulfilling public duties. These include, for example, the regulation of vocational training or the management of trades.
A special feature, in contrast to other chambers, is the involvement of employees in all chambers of craftsmen. Thus, the interests of the employed masters, apprentices and apprentices in the companies are taken into account. This means that not only the farmers are members of the Chamber of Crafts, but also all employees with completed vocational training.
The members of the Chamber of Crafts will send their representatives to the General Assembly, which consists of 36 honorary volunteers. Twenty-four full-board members represented the self-employed and twelve the employees. The General Assembly, in turn, elects the Board of Directors, consisting of the President, two Vice-Presidents and six other members.
