MISSION
Hatchuel Tabernik & Associates is a consulting company that is dedicated to cost effective, high quality services helping organizations to improve their effectiveness, expand their services, and target their resources to support and improve their communities, and create a more equitable and just society.
HISTORY
Dina Hatchuel and Tim Tabernik founded Hatchuel Tabernik & Associates (HTA) in 1995. By 1997 HTA was incorporated in California and by 1999 had moved into its suite of offices in Berkeley, California. HTA expanded even during a severe economic downturn in California, reaching its current complement of 25 staff and associates.
Dina is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with more than 25 years of experience in residential treatment, hospital administration, and organizational development with private and public sector organizations. Tim is an educator and social service professional with more than 30 years of experience in the fields of special education, residential treatment, community-based services, school-linked services, fund development, and convening of successful collaborations. They have assembled a highly competent staff of social workers, educators, public policy experts, researchers, and information technology and business development experts.
Since 1996, HTA has been in the forefront of the “Community School” movement in California, with special emphasis on the San Francisco Bay Area. Under contract to the California Department of Education, HTA has been the Regional Lead for Healthy Start and state and federal after school programs in the seven Bay Area Counties – providing training and technical assistance for these Community School collaboratives in low-income communities throughout the area.
During the past decade HTA has built a sophisticated Research and Evaluation capacity with both doctoral and masters level staff. They currently evaluate more than 150 school-linked and school-based programs, juvenile justice and adult corrections programs, AmeriCorps, and early childhood development programs throughout California. They have developed survey instruments, on-line data collection systems, security, and data tracking systems to expedite and manage large-scale data requirements for their work. They have convened a federally qualified Institutional Review Board to oversee human subjects protections in their research and evaluation work. They have completed multi-site, multi-district evaluations of School To Career, Gifted and Talented Education, Health and Fitness Programs, and After School Programs. They recently completed a statewide evaluation of California Family Empowerment Centers.
HTA has also earned a reputation for successful grant writing – having raised more than $200 million during the past five years from state, federal and foundation grants. The grant team provides “the HTA edge” for their clients – ensuring their clients receive both attention to detail and compelling prose that communicates clearly to the reader.
