HAIN was established in 1985 to serve the information and research needs of community-based health programs (CBHPs) in the Philippines. These CBHPs were established as an alternative health system for marginalized rural and urban communities.
HAIN has developed training modules on various health issues. To date, HAIN maintains a resource center, conducts training, education activities and research throughout the country.
HAIN’s advocacy for people’s health is strengthened by its wide network of local and international agencies working in health and health related concerns.
HAIN is a Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) registered non-profit organization since 1985 and accredited by the Philippine Council for NGO Certification (PCNC) since 2002. The organization is being managed by a Board of Trustees with regular and voluntary technical staff implementing various projects and programs.

WHAT WE DO
HAIN is recognized in the health community as one of the leading source of accurate, timely, well-researched, and in-depth qualitative and quantitative analysis of diverse health related issues. HAIN takes pride in its extensive and innovative research collection conducted over the years that help HAIN establish its reputation as an information hub for NGOs, LGUs, academicians, students and other organizations. These researches were used to guide our trainings as well as formulate recommendations for public policy and various advocacies from local and international partners
HAIN’s publication provides an analytical perspective, practical, up-to-date, relevant and accurate health information for health, community and education workers in Asia and the Pacific. It includes newsletters, information, education and communication materials (IEC), books and monographs. The publications cover topics relevant to various health aspects from a wide range of social science disciplines and cater to different sectors. These publications reach both local and international communities.
The HAIN Resource Center serves and responds to the information needs of CBHPs, partner NGOs, researchers and policy makers. Its collection has grown rapidly through the years and now has more than 4000 volumes of printed materials and subscription to some 150 periodicals. Aside from printed materials, HAIN has a growing collection of audio visuals, e-files (databases on compact discs, downloaded files) and online database access.
The Resource Center’s collection also boasts of gray literature such as thesis and dissertations, manuscripts, and reports of past and current medical professionals and other experts in the field. These materials are sourced all over the world, majority of which comes from the Asia-Pacific region.
