About

Health Research, Inc. (HRI) contributes to the health and well-being of the people of New York State by complementing and enabling the strategic public health goals of the New York State Department of Health (DOH), Roswell Park Cancer Institute Corporation (RPCIC), and other health-related entities.

HRI provides best-in-class resource administration for stakeholders and programs related to the work and priorities of the Department of Health and its other partners. HRI does this through the provision of knowledge, expertise, funding guidance, and fiduciary oversight of sponsored program funding for public health and research programs in concert with community partnerships.

History

HRI was established in 1953 primarily to serve the research programs of the Roswell Park Cancer Institute, which at the time was an institution of the Department of Health. In addition to the services provided to Roswell Park programs through its HRI Roswell Park Division located in Buffalo, the corporation now serves major DOH programs located at the Wadsworth Center, the AIDS Institute, the Office of Health Systems Management, the Center for Community Health, the Center for Environmental Health, the Office of Health Emergency Preparedness, and the Helen Hayes Hospital, a comprehensive research and teaching hospital specializing in rehabilitation medicine located in West Haverstraw, New York.

In its long history, HRI has accepted and administered over ten billion dollars in funding to supplement DOH, RPCI and other health related programs, and has established a proven track record of assuring that funds are utilized in accordance with the requirements of the sponsor. Sources of funding include Federal agencies, not-for-profit foundations and commercial firms. In addition, HRI administers funds from individual donors, estate bequests and court settlements. HRI has the ability to meet virtually any stipulated accounting and reporting requirement.
