On August 1, 2018, the Minneapolis Medical Research Foundation (MMRF) officially changed its name to Hennepin Healthcare Research Institute (HHRI), which is still a subsidiary of Hennepin Healthcare System, Inc. They changed their name to better demonstrate the alignment of their mission with their parent and affiliate organizations.
At the Hennepin Healthcare Research Institute (HHRI), they have been actively investigating the causes of and potential treatments for diseases since 1952. They support and oversee the medical research conducted at HCMC, the flagship acute care and teaching hospital of the Hennepin Healthcare System in downtown Minneapolis. In an academic environment that emphasizes patient care, research, and teaching, HHRI helps offer patients better care now and hope for improved healthcare in the future.
HHRI is one of the largest medical research nonprofits in Minnesota and consistently ranks in the top ten percent nationally of all institutions receiving research grants from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). While public monies support a majority of our research, our work would not be possible without the support of corporate and individual donors.
