Overview
Since 1998, the HES-SO University of Applied Sciences and Arts Western Switzerland has become a great source of skills, ideas, innovation, creativity and knowledge.
The HES-SO is recognised by the Confederation and member of swissuniversities.
With its six faculties and network of schools of higher education, the HES-SO plays a preeminent role in the socio-economic and cultural development of the seven cantons of Western Switzerland and is a recognised player within the Swiss and international landscape of higher education.

With 21,000 students, the HES-SO is the largest UAS in Switzerland. Its study programs and research activities are divided into six faculties: Arts & Design; Business, Management and Services; Engineering & Architecture; Music and Performing Arts; Health Sciences; and Social Work.

Mission
The HES-SO provides tertiary education at university level based on practice and which is primarily a continuation of basic vocational training. Its studies lead to a Bachelor's and Master's degree HES-SO. The offer also includes postgraduate studies and professional development.

The HES-SO carries out applied research and development projects and integrates the results into its teaching. It provides services to third parties and ensures exchanges with the circles of practice.

The HES-SO encourages the transfer of knowledge, technologies and artistic practices. Multidisciplinary, it is oriented towards innovation and creativity. It contributes to the broadening of knowledge and its development for the benefit of students and society. It also ensures sustainable economic, social, ecological, environmental and cultural development and takes into account bilingualism in the townships concerned.

The HES-SO collaborates with other training and research institutions in Switzerland or abroad.
