The Essakane mine, owned 90% by IAMGOLD Corporation and 10% by the State of Burkina Faso, is located in the northeastern part of Burkina Faso, in West Africa. It straddles the border between the provinces of Oudalan and Séno, in the Sahel Region of Burkina Faso, and is about 310 km northeast of the capital, Ouagadougou. It is located 42 km east of the nearest large town, Gorom-Gorom, which is the provincial capital of Oudalan. In addition to being a model and multicultural mine, Essakane operates with nearly 2,500 employees, 97% of whom are nationals. The Essakane gold mine produced 404,144 ounces of gold in 2020.
