An Indonesian NGO based in Bali, IDEP was founded in 1999 during the height of Indonesia’s economic crisis. IDEP supports effective community development and disaster management. Through a wide network of grass roots initiatives in Indonesia, IDEP delivers community based disaster management at all stages of disaster; preparedness, response and recovery.
IDEP’s mandate is to be ‘on the ground’ within 36 hours of a disaster occuring, when immediate relief is most needed. IDEP played a significant role in emergency response for the Bali bombings and delivered over US $1 million of ‘appropriate aid’ to survivors in Aceh after the Asian Tsunami. The foundation also delivers innovative Permaculture trainings for sustainable development and disaster recovery. Through its work IDEP facilitates better living standards for people throughout Indonesia and the wider world.

Sustainable Development
IDEP delivers trainings and publishes manuals and other educational tools for: Permaculture and sustainable community design and development, including: Organic farming, gardening, seed saving, soil rehabilitation, natural pest control, water and waste management, Wastewater Gardens® (sewage treatment systems), animal and aquaculture systems, onservation and appropriate technology.

Disaster Preparedness and Risk Reduction
IDEP trainings and educational tools help communities be prepared for disasters so that they can reduce loss of lives and loss of resources if a disaster strikes. We teach simple and practical methods for community risk reduction including: risk mapping, community responses, erosion control and waste management.
