The Independent High Electoral Commission is a professional, governmental, independent and impartial body that is subject to the oversight of the House of Representatives. It has exclusive responsibility for organizing, implementing and supervising all kinds of elections and referendums. The Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) is a constitutional institution according to Article 102 and was formed under the Commission Law No. 11 of 2007 to replace the (Independent High Electoral Commission in Iraq / Transitional Electoral Commission) that was responsible for holding the elections and the constitutional referendum process in 2005.
The Independent High Electoral Commission aims to become a pioneer in using innovative technologies made possible by technology to provide excellent electoral services. The IHEC Digital Service (IHEC DS) was created to support this work. The Independent High Electoral Commission will help transform and design its services around the needs of voters and users for more transparent and trustworthy elections.
