The Institute of planning and urban planning of the Paris Region (IAURP) was created May 4, 1960 by decree of the Minister of Equipment, Pierre Sudreau, then recognized public utility foundation on August 2, 1960. It becomes In 1976, the Institute of Planning and Development of the Île-de-France region (IAURIF). In 2008 the acronym evolves to become IAU Ile-de-France. Large regional agency of urban planning and the environment, the IAU offers a unique multidisciplinary expertise allowing to treat at 360 ° the problems of development of the territories. In September 2019 the foundation will be transferred to an association law of 1901.

By taking the form of a public non-profit association, the IAU, the regional planning and environmental agency of Île-de-France, opens its bodies and governance from 2019 onwards. to partners wishing to access its data and analyzes, to benefit more directly from its work and to influence the development of ideas and solutions for the Ile-de-France of tomorrow and the day after tomorrow. Its historical founders, State and Region first and foremost, want to join the IAU two categories of members:

  • local authorities - departments and communes - and their groupings, whether they be intercommunalities, mixed unions or any other form of cooperation;
  • the major public operators of planning, transport, environment, economic and social development.
