Under the authority of the Minister of Planning, the National Institute of Statistics (INS) is responsible for the design, development, coordination and implementation of statistical activity and socio-economic information on any the extent of the national territory.
As such, the INS is notably responsible for:
- to coordinate statistical activity throughout the national territory by ensuring the quality and harmonization of data produced at the national level, by defining the standards to be followed;
- to centralize, process and disseminate all the information necessary for the development and monitoring of economic and social policy;
- disseminate all statistical information;
- to create and manage socio-economic databases of all sources of information in official statistics;
- to carry out national statistical surveys, demographic censuses and statistical studies necessary for the establishment and updating of the statistical information system on household living conditions and poverty;
- to liaise with national and international statistical services and to represent our country at international meetings relating to statistics;
- coordinate and animate the activities of the INS representations in the interior of the country;
- to provide technical assistance to the services responsible for statistics within the Administration;
- to carry out studies of an economic, social and statistical nature;
- to promote research in the field of Statistics;
- to ensure the training, development and retraining of staff responsible for statistics of public and parapublic services;
- to prepare annually the National Statistical Work Program for the session of the National Statistics Council;
- analyze the investigation files with a view to granting the statistical visa;
- ensure the Secretariat of the National Statistics Council (CNS).
