Institute for Vegetable Crops is a research institute accredited for scientific work.
The research work is carried out by ten PhDs and two researchers, doctoral candidates. Their work focuses on genetics and breeding of vegetable species, physiology and agro-chemistry of vegetables, seeds, phyto-pathology and protection of vegetables from diseases, pests and weeds. Research programs are focused on solving current problems of cultivation of various vegetative species, preservation and testing of genetic pug and closer look to the specifics of certain vegetable species. The results of the research are new knowledge and new methods that can be applied in the process of vegetable production, new approaches in selection and seed production and, most importantly, new varieties and hybrids of various vegetable species. The Institute is best-known for varieties and hybrids of pepper and tomato that find their place in the market, not only in Serbia, but also in Bulgaria, Macedonia, Belorussia, Romania, Montenegro, Italy and Albania.
Researchers present the results of scientific work at scientific meetings in Serbia and abroad. By participating at international scientific conferences or during several months of specialization, the Institute is represented in many countries around the world. Researchers of the Institute are involved in national and international projects, and cooperation has been established with numerous scientific research organizations, faculties, colleges, agricultural expert services, the Government and relevant ministries, as well as foreign embassies and international institutions.
The largest item in the Institute's income is the sale of seeds of vegetable assortment created by the team of researchers of this institute during many years of work.
