The vision and inspiration of the employees at IMGGE is acquiring new knowledge in the field of molecular genetics, biomedicine and biotechnology and its application in order to improve the quality of life.

Vision of IMGGE is to contribute, through scientific results, to the transformation of the country into knowledge-based society.

IMGGE will strive to provide an adequate environment and infrastructure that will enable linking fundamental research and practice.

Institute of Molecular Genetics and Genetic Engineering (IMGGE), former Centar for Genetic Engineering, was founded in 1986 by the decision of the Preparatory Committee for foundation of the International Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB) in New Delhi. IMGGE was among the first institutions who gained the status of the ICGEB affiliated center and is involved in all activities of this international organization.

IMGGE was founded with the idea of intensifying the development of molecular biology and molecular genetics, as well as application of fundamental research in practice.
IMGGE has collaboration with many institutions in the region, as well as ICGEB member states. Since 1998 IMGGE is located in the new building on 2400 m² and has at its disposal all the equipment necessary for the sophisticated experimental manipulations.

By the decision of the Republic of Serbia’s Government 05 No. 022-1183/2007 IMGGE becomes governmental institute since March 1st, 2007.
