Law 166 - July 12, 2012: Dominican System for Quality, SIDOCAL, in Article 38, creates the Dominican Institute for Quality, INDOCAL, to replace the General Directorate of Quality Standards and Systems (DIGENOR).
At the beginning of 1978 DIGENOR began to be organized, under the advice of the Dominican Institute of Industrial Technology (INDOTEC). In June of that same year, the first General Director of the institution is appointed and in October the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is entered, which ensures the participation of the Dominican Republic in the work of International Standardization.
Today INDOCAL, the national authority responsible for standardization and Legal, Industrial and Scientific metrology in the Dominican Republic, is a fundamental structural component of the Dominican Council for Quality, CODOCA; attached to the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Mipymes (MICM), decentralized, of Public Law, with legal status, equity and own funds, with administrative, economic, financial, technical and operational autonomy, with headquarters in the city of Santo Domingo and national competition.
As a standardizing body, INDOCAL has the functions of organizing the activities of preparation, adoption, harmonization, approval, officialization, publication and dissemination of technical standards, with a view to facilitating trade and industrial development and serving as a basis for Technical Regulations.
Regarding metrology, it resides in developing and disseminating the accuracy of the country's national measurement standards, as well as the verification, calibration and certification of the measuring instruments, for this it has the Flow, Mass, Temperature and Electrical Measurements, entities that meet the necessary competencies to determine the operation of these equipment and instruments.
