Essential Functions
Medical care: Mechanism for the protection of life, whose fundamental purpose is the provision of medical-hospital services to conserve, prevent or restore the health of our members, by means of a professional assessment, which ranges from the diagnosis of the patient to the application of the treatment required for its re-establishment.
Social forecast: It consists in protecting our members from those risks that deprive them of the ability to earn a living, whatever the origin of such incapacity (maternity, illness, disability, old age, among others); or, to protect certain family members in case of death of the person who watched over their subsistence.
Mission
To be the leading institution of social security, which contributes to the socioeconomic wellbeing of the Guatemalan population.
Vision
By 2022 the IGSS will expand coverage in health services and cash benefits with high standards of transparency, quality and governance.
