HISTORICAL REVIEW
The National Teacher Welfare Institute (INABIMA) was created by the General Education Law 66-97, of April 1997.
Its formation is contained and detailed under the chapters "Of the services of Magisterial Welfare and of the Personnel of Education" and "Of the Retirements and Pensions" of the Law.
On March 12, 2003, Decree 243-03 containing the Organic Regulation of INABIMA was issued, establishing the operational foundations for the operation of the institution. However, it was not until November 21, 2003, that INABIMA inaugurated its first home, at calle Pedro Ignacio Espaillat 253, Gazcue, Santo Domingo. The first General Executive Director was Professor Hilario Jáquez.
On October 18, 2004, through the decree 1335-04, Maritza Rossi, executive director of the institution, was appointed.
As of July 17, 2006, the INABIMA, through the Special Pension and Retirement Program of the teaching staff of the State Secretariat of Education (SEE), now the Ministry of Education (MINERD), becomes the agency in charge of management of pensions and retirement of the teaching staff of said Ministry. Since then, the Executive Power, in compliance with the provisions of Article 167 of Law 66-97, issues decrees through which it grants pensions and pensions to the teaching staff of the Ministry of Education through INABIMA.
In 2008, Law 451-08 was enacted that introduces amendments to the General Education Law 66-97 on pensions and pensions for teachers in the official sector, establishing that INABIMA will include, among other activities of the social security and quality of life regime, health insurance, life insurance, housing provision, savings and loans, multiple consumer services, recreation, transportation, the vacation regime, retirement, pension and retirement and cooperative. On April 11, 2014, by decree 137-14, Yuri Rodríguez Santos was appointed as executive director of INABIMA.

The National Institute of Teacher Welfare (INABIMA) is a decentralized institution, attached to the Ministry of Education of the Dominican Republic (MINERD), created by the General Law of Education No. 66-97, dated April 10, 1997, and its modifications with Law No. 451-08, dated October 15, 2008.
Through the premise of "Committed to the Teacher Sector" , INABIMA aims to coordinate an integrated system of social security and improvement of the quality of life for teachers in the public sector and their families, both active as pensioners and retirees .
