ICEG European Center is an independent economic research institute based in Budapest, Hungary. The Center was founded in 2001 by Dr. Pál Gáspár. ICEG European Center focuses its activities on research, macroeconomic and sectoral analyses and forecasts, policy advice and the dissemination of its research output through conferences and publications.
Most ICEG research projects concentrate on analysing economic developments in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) and in the Baltics – in other terms, the Eastern EU Member States (EU8+2). Furthermore, ICEG also provides analysis about Europe-wide economic issues, research on Southeast Europe (SEE), on the CIS countries and on Asia, as well.
Main research areas
Economic research in ICEG European Center has several main topics and themes. European macroeconomic issues, as well as empirical and policy oriented research on economic growth, spreading of information and communication technologies (ICTs) in the economy and in the society, with particular attention to European, EU8+2 and SEE developments. ICEG European Center also conducts research on the main trends of research and development (R&D) and innovation. Another important research area is public economics with particular attention to the analysis of tax systems, healthcare and public administration. Finally, we carry out research on regional economics and regional developments, as well.
Analyses and forecasts
ICEG European Center prepares various analyses and forecasts on Central and Eastern Europe, Southeast Europe and the CIS countries. These analyses include brief monthly reports explaining economic developments and policy issues in the NMS and the CIS (News of the Month), and regular reports on the economic developments in Southeast Europe (Southeast European Monitor). ICEG EC is also re-launching its previous quarterly economic forecast series and sectoral analyses.
ICEG European Center provides policy advice for the public and private sector on both national and international level. Policy advice for the public sector on the national level consists of preparation of macroeconomic analyses and regional studies for ministries, development agencies and other public institutions. Policy advice for the private sector includes co-operation with chambers and representatives of the banking and corporate sectors.
ICEG European Center also provides policy recommendations to various international and European organisations, including the European Commission
ICEG European Center is regularly organising conferences and workshops on main policy and research issues. These are either parts of a regular series or belong to special research programmes and projects.
ICEG European Center is working with several Hungarian and European partner institutes on a network basis, and has research connections all over Southeast Europe, the CIS countries and East Asia. The Center has a solid and stable partnership with Eastern European research organisations and regularly acts as a coordinator of EU8+2 research institutes in various international projects.
