IREX is a global development and education organization. IREX strives for a more just, prosperous, and inclusive world—where individuals reach their full potential, governments serve their people, and communities thrive. With an annual portfolio of $80 million and 400 staff worldwide, IREX works with partners in more than 100 countries in four areas essential to progress: cultivating leaders, empowering youth, strengthening institutions, and increasing access to quality education and information. TYPES OF PROGRAMS Civil society IREX strengthens civil society organizations to elevate citizen voices while increasing the accountability and effectiveness of public institutions. IREX’s approach focuses on supporting partners to deliver tangible benefits to the people they serve. Education IREX works with individuals, institutions, and governments around the world to improve the quality of teaching and learning, inside and outside the classroom. IREX works with teachers and administrators, from school through university and professional training. Gender equality IREX works to ensure that people of all genders can participate fully in society. IREX sharpens the leadership skills of women and girls, strengthens institutions so they serve women and men equally, and works to make technology, education, and jobs accessible to all. Governance IREX supports governments in ways that enable them to become more effective, accountable, and responsive to the people they serve. IREX partners with institutions and civil society to promote constructive civic engagement. Leadership IREX cultivates leaders who strive to better themselves and more effectively serve others. IREX enhances their leadership skills and expands their networks, strengthening their ability to make a difference in their communities. Media and information IREX promotes vibrant information and media systems so people can make informed decisions, hold those in power accountable, and take actions to improve their lives. IREX works with information consumers and producers to ensure that people can engage with high-quality content through multiple channels—and act freely upon information that affects them. Technology IREX harnesses technology to improve education, strengthen institutions, encourage civic engagement, and broaden access to information. Realizing technology’s potential depends on the local context. IREX starts by listening to communities to design practical solutions. Youth IREX invests in youth by promoting quality education, professional development, civic engagement, and job skills. IREX focuses especially on supporting underrepresented young women and men who aim to become community leaders and active, informed citizens.
