Human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs) represent one of our major fields of activity. These complex natural sugar molecules are found uniquely in human milk. Human milk oligosaccharides cannot be digested by humans and thus, do not provide calories. However, HMOs have various functional health benefits beyond the intake of calories. We have developed innovative processes for the production of HMOs and have built up production capacity over the last few years allowing us to supply these oligosaccharides as food ingredients.

Jennewein Biotechnologie also specializes in the development of production processes and the production of functional monosaccharides, including the extremely rare sugars L-Fucose and Sialic acid(N‑acetylneuraminic acid). These saccharides are found in the human body in high concentration and are required for a healthy development and functioning of our body. The monosaccharides manufactured by Jennewein Biotechnologie are used primarily as active ingredients for pharmaceutical and cosmeticproducts as well as for therapeutic animal feed.
