The Drinking Water Company was established in Kafr El-Sheikh Governorate in 1983, and it started its activities in 1985, and the sanitation activity was added to it in 1990, to be the only company at the level of the Republic whose activity included drinking water and sanitation at this date, and its name was changed to “The Drinking Water and Sanitation Company” after adding an activity Sewage. In 2004, Republican Decree No. 135 was issued to establish the Holding Company for Drinking Water and Wastewater, and it has a legal personality in accordance with the provisions of Law No. 203 of 1991 and its executive regulations. And according to Article 3 of the aforementioned presidential decree, the economic public authorities and public sector companies for drinking water and sanitation in the governorates - including the Drinking Water and Sanitation Company in Kafr El-Sheikh - referred to in this article, were transferred to subsidiaries of the Holding Company subject to the provisions of the Public Business Sector Companies Law promulgated by law. No. 203 of 1991.
