Kanematsu Corporation was formed in April 1967 as Kanematsu-Gosho Ltd. in the merger of F. Kanematsu & Co., Ltd. and The Gosho Co., Ltd. Its name was changed to the Kanematsu Corporation on January 1, 1990. Kanematsu Corporation is a sogo shosha, a general trading company, which conducts business in diversified import and export markets. Trading companies specialize in bringing together buyers and sellers of a variety of products and handling finance and transport of the resulting transaction.

It offers electronic components and materials, semiconductor and LCD equipment, mechanical parts, aircraft and aircraft parts mobile phones, mobile systems, communication equipment, optical equipment and parts, and battery modules; and mobile content, leasing, and aircraft components replacement and maintenance services. 

The company also provides canned/frozen/dried fruits, coffee, cocoa, sugar, sesame, peanuts, beans, and wines; meat and marine products; feed, fertilizer, pasture grass, and pet foods; wheat, barley, rice, corn, and lactic acid bacteria preparation for animal feed; and soybeans, flour, and vegetable oils, as well as engages in food wholesaling and cold storage activities. In addition, it is involved in trading various iron and steel products, such as steel sheets, bar products, wire, pipes, stainless products, cast and forged products, and iron and steel raw materials; and industrial and transportation machinery, and machine tools. Further, the company trades in raw materials for photovoltaic modules and lithium batteries; chemicals; food materials, health supplements, pharmaceuticals, and pharmaceutical intermediates; and crude oil, petroleum products, and gas, as well as works on the development of environment-related materials and new technologies, and engages in carbon credit trading. Additionally, it sells textile materials and products, bedding materials, and interior goods; manufactures and sells home-construction materials, polyester blend fabric, and medium-density fiberboard; and is involved in the golf course management, beverage-vending machine operation, and warehouse and trunk room operation, as well as provides insurance agency and logistics, ground inspection and improvement works, and foodstuff and aircraft engines import, export, and sale services. The company was founded in 1889 and is headquartered in Tokyo, Japan.
