Kheth’Impilo AIDS Free Living is a national not for profit organisation that is uniquely positioned to address HIV /AIDS in the high prevalence districts through-out South Africa. The organisation’s mission is to support the South African Government in achieving its goals to scale up quality services for the management of HIV/AIDS in the Primary Health Care sector as outlined in the National Strategic Plan. They focus on the actual implementation of realistic and attainable interventions and solutions that address the needs of people infected and affected by HIV / AIDS.
Presently, Kheth'Impilo is operating in 8 districts with high HIV and TB prevalence in the Eastern Cape (Nelson Mandela B Metro, Amathole), Kwa-Zulu Natal (EThekwini, Amajuba, ILembe and UMgungundlovu), Mpumalanga (Ehlanzeni) and the Western Cape (Metro). In these districts Kheth'Impilo programmes scale up access to prevention, care, treatment and support services which contribute to the National Strategic Plan goals of reaching 80% of people living with HIV/AIDS and reducing new HIV infections by 50%.
Programs
The organisation's operations include clinical interventions managed by the Health Services Cluster. Kheth'Impilo works in close partnership with the Department of Health at a district level and implements the following programmes:
The clinical programme is supported by the Community Services Cluster, which provides adherence and psycho-social support
interventions for patients through its Patient Advocate model. Ongoing treatment, counselling and psychosocial support at the community level are provided with special attention paid to the very ill, pregnant, TB infected, children and adolescents, as well as patients struggling with disclosure. PAs are the link between the clinical services and the community, and enable Kheth'Impilo to identify challenges that may become barriers to treatment and refer patients for services to address these challenges.
The organisation's operations are supported by the Support Services Cluster, which manages the core functions such as Finance, Human Resources and IT. The Support Services Cluster enables us to run the organisation in an efficient way, while catering for the specific needs of our respective donors.
Its health and education programmes address poverty alleviation, stimulates economic participation by enabling access to the workplace and supports sustainable access into the South African economy for disatvantaged individuals and their communities nationally.
