Profile of the Consortium supporting Community-Based Forest System (KpSHK)
KpSHK is a network organization founded in 1997 on the initiative of several NGOs, indigenous peoples' organizations, researchers and individuals concerned with issues of natural resources, particularly forests in Indonesia. Since its establishment, KpSHK has been positioned as a motor of movement that supports systematically forest management methods developed from generation to generation by indigenous peoples and local communities in and around the forest.
In achieving the vision of people's sovereignty in the management of natural resources, especially forests, KpSHK has a mission to: (a) revitalize customary law and management institutions so that they have resilience that can respond well to any offer of change; (b) provide technical and methodological support for the development of management models; (c) community economic empowerment of SHK perpetrator groups based on the sources of wealth they have; (d) fighting for people's sovereignty by recognizing, respecting and protecting people's rights through relevant policy reforms and public support, as well as overseeing the implementation of policies that have guaranteed people's sovereignty; (e) network development among SHK actors and supporters through sharing of experiences, documentation and communication media.
