The oldest medical inpatient facility for the sick was established in Ústí nad Labem more than seven hundred years ago, if you can find out at all, between about 1279 and 1290. It was a hospital of the Crusaders with a red star. This Czech order was founded in Prague by Anežka Přemyslovná in 1233 and its task was to take care of pilgrims and the sick.
Since 2007, Masaryk Hospital has been a part of the joint-stock company Krajská zdravotní, which also includes hospitals in Děčín, Chomutov, Most and Teplice.
Modern history of Masaryk Hospital
Throughout its history, Masaryk Hospital has been the largest medical facility in northern Bohemia and is undoubtedly still one of the most important hospitals in the Czech Republic. The hospital provides basic, specialized and super-specialized health care. In 2013, 45,019 patients were hospitalized here, 22,223 operations were performed and over 500,000 outpatient examinations were performed. Masaryk Hospital is divided into 40 specialized departments, has a total of 1,139 beds and with its 2,294 employees is the largest employer in the city of Ústí nad Labem and in the wider area, and also holds many primates in various medical fields. It treats patients from all over the country and from abroad.
Masaryk Hospital is a holder of a quality certificate for its entire activities according to the ISO 9001: 2000 standard. It is accredited by the Ministry of Health in all fields and has the highest degree of accreditation in a number of fields. Successful accreditation also took place in all laboratories of the hospital.
Masaryk Hospital has the status of a safe hospital, a painless hospital (an effort to provide the most effective analgesia) and is one of the few in the Czech Republic to provide palliative care at home.
Masaryk Hospital works closely with the University Hospital in Královské Vinohrady in Prague, with the Faculty of Medicine in Pilsen and the Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem. Masaryk Hospital has eight clinics - neurosurgical, cardiological, gynecological and obstetric, ophthalmology, clinic of anaesthesiology, perioperative and intensive care medicine, pediatric, clinic of trauma surgery and clinic of urological and robotic surgery. The robotic surgery center includes an international training center.
Physicians, nurses and laboratory technicians are taught here. Doctors and nurses give lectures in the Czech Republic and abroad, lead professional courses and workshops, are authors and co-authors of textbooks and monographs, publish in the most prestigious domestic and foreign journals, are invited to chair professional sections of foreign congresses and requested lectures. The pride of the hospital is a teaching center with the technical background of a 3D classroom and a library.
Masaryk Hospital operates specialized centers in all fields defined by the Bulletin of the Ministry of Health and also provides mobile hospice services. The hospital has the status of Traumatology Center for Children and Adults, Comprehensive Oncology Center, Complex Cerebrovascular Center, Perinatology Center, Cardiology Center, Macular Center, Hematooncology Center for Children and Adults, Robotic Surgery Center and there are centers for biological rheumatological, dermal and gastroenterological treatment, children and adults, and a center for the treatment of hemophilia.
Masaryk Hospital has a number of departments that are unique in the Ústí Region - the Department of Oral, Maxillofacial and Facial Surgery, the Department of Forensics, Sexology, Prosthetics, the Department of Functional Examination, the Infectious Diseases Department with an AIDS Center, and the Department of Clinical Genetics.
Masaryk Hospital is still developing - in the last four years there has been a fundamental reconstruction of the neonatal ward, multidisciplinary one-day surgery, one-day gynecology, inpatient department of oral, maxillofacial and facial surgery, clinical department of clinical genetics. A project is ready to build a pediatric hospital, a one-day pediatrics and a children's emergency. The implementation of this project will significantly increase the quality of care.
