Kurawal Foundation is a philanthropic institution for social justice that works to support new ideas, initiatives, and efforts to realize dignified and beneficial democracy in Indonesia and Southeast Asia.
Kurawal seeks to address the problem of "democracy without democrats" by encouraging the emergence of individuals and agencies who believe in, respect and consistently apply the values and principles of democracy that majority rule must be accompanied by protection of minority rights (majority rules minority rights).
Kurawal believes that a strong democratic order requires the presence of more democrats. Therefore, if we accept that democrats are made, not born, we must accept that citizens’ support for democracy is the result of a socio-political learning process and not a quality that is inherent in each individual.
