Laboratoria
Laboratoria
About

They are social entrepreneurs who believe in the power of code.

Laboratoria is way more than a typical coding school.

They look for talent where no one else is looking for. They identify young women with high potential, despite their economic limitations, and give them the opportunity to become awesome developers. The result is life transformation for each or their coders and a new source of female tech talent from Latin America to the world.

Their Impact

Higher job placement rate and income growth than the average US bootcamp

The context of their students is not a disadvantage. The adversity they have faced has made them stronger and more commited to learn in Laboratoria and enter the workforce. That's probably why they have better results than the average US bootcamp according to Course Report.

Skills, not just diplomas

Their education program is designed to teach students the technical and soft skills needed to start working as web developers. But that’s not all. There are 5 success factors that they have found critical to enable graduates to find jobs:

1. Rigorous selection program.

They identify young women that demonstrate potential and interest for technology, through psycho-social evaluations, logic and comprehension tests and a pre-admission week. Around 1 in 4 applicants enters the program.

2. Market oriented technical curriculum.

They work closely with top companies in Latin America and Silicon Valley to teach what the market needs. They are actually evolving now from a 6mo to a 2Y program. Graduates from their 6mo bootcamp will start working as jr. front end developers and continue studying with them until they become full stack JavaScript developers.

3. Personal support and family involvement.

Their program includes personal development workshops to give students the soft skills needed to perform well at work. They also involve parents/guardians to ensure they understand the program and support students in this new journey.

4. Agile Classroom.

In Laboratoria they bring Agile principles to the classroom. Students learn in teams with coaches (Squads) and lessons are covered in short Sprints with frequent retrospectives. With Agile, students are control of their own learning process and teachers keep better track of their performance. This accelerate learning and drives more engagement.

5. Bridge to sustainable employment.

They extensively evaluate students and provide an “employment recommendation” to those ready to work after the bootcamp. They connect them with their network of +400 hiring companies, prepare them for their interviews and continue supporting them throughout their first year of employment.
