Last Mile Health (LMH)
Founded on the belief that no one should die because they live too far from a doctor, Last Mile Health works to improve access to—and the quality of—essential healthcare for people living in rural and remote communities through teams of community and frontline health workers.
Following the Ebola epidemic, Last Mile Health collaborated with Liberia’s Ministry of Health and partners to design and scale the National Community Health Assistant Program, a groundbreaking initiative that will deploy 4,000 community and frontline health workers to serve the 1.2 million people living at the last mile. Today, over 70% the country’s community health workforce has been deployed nationwide and they have conducted over 3 million patient visits.
Informed by over a decade of working alongside the Government of Liberia, Last Mile Health partners with countries to design, scale, strengthen, and sustain community-based primary health systems, while sharing tools and best practices to support community health workers across the globe. Last Mile Health is supporting countries like Ethiopia, Malawi, and Uganda to strengthen the quality of their community health workforce through research, advocacy, and health systems strengthening initiatives. Last Mile Health is also reimagining education for community health workers and health systems leaders in the digital age through the Community Health Academy.
