Laxhjalpen (Läxhjälpen)
About

Founded in 2007 by Harald Ullman, then CEO of the student site Lycknis. After following the school debate, he wanted to do something concrete to help more young people cope with the school. In September 2007, Maria Arneng was hired as a project manager and within a short time, Läxhjälpen was started, with the aim of providing homework help for young people who need extra help to cope with the school. The ambition was that more students would achieve the grading goals in order to enter the high school, thereby creating better conditions for influencing their future.

With the support of the energy company Kraft & Kultur, the operation was started in two pilot schools in the Stockholm suburbs Rinkeby and Hjulsta. The results were above expectations. Homework helpers not only had the students read homework but also had fun and created valuable relationships. All the students raised their grades considerably. Since then, the business has continued to grow. Each year, Läxhjälpen contributes to hundreds of young people succeeding in raising their grades and moving on to high school.

The Läxhjälpen Foundation is a non-profit fundraising foundation that conducts free-performance-based homework assistance in socio-economically vulnerable areas. They are politically and religiously unbound. Financing is mostly done by the business sector, but also by foundations, funds and some private individuals. The foundation Lekshjälpen has a 90-account. This means that the business is reviewed by the Swedish Fundraising Control.

Increased chance of coping with the school reduces the risk of exclusion. Growing up in Sweden means good conditions for succeeding with most things. Nevertheless, there are schools where only three out of ten students come to upper secondary school. Läxhjälpen is a concrete effort that attacks one of Sweden's biggest problems today; the lack of integration and that an increasing number of young people are not able to cope with the school and end up outside society.
