LP3ES stands for Institute for Research, Education and Information on Economy and Social Affairs , founded on 19 August 1971 , known as one of Indonesia's largest non-governmental organizations , has experience and competence in conducting publishing, research and political and social education activities economy. Since 1972, LP3ES publishes social and economic journals, Prism, which reads academics, students, government officials, political figures and other strategic groups. Thoughts and analyzes presented through the Prisma journal have in many ways been references to decision makers and development planners in Indonesia in addition to reading intellectuals and university teachers. In the field of publication, LP3ES has since pub- lished publishing of dozens of textbooks and general readings for students and colleges, some of which have been made into compulsory reading materials in various faculties and universities and higher education institutions others.

As a research-driven NGO, LP3ES has been involved in research, policy studies and action research, primarily related to the interests of the grass-root communities. Begin research on the informal sectors, cooperatives, small industries and people's crafts, traditional educational institutions such as pesantren, non-formal education, farmer participation, maternal and child health, the environment, study on public relations and the state and so on.

The birth of the Institute of Regional Development Planning Agency (Bappeda) throughout Indonesia is a research recommendation conducted by LP3ES. Some of the research results are presented in discussions and seminars that are widely publicized by press media. Even some of the LP3ES study results are also published in book form.
