Lighthouse Reports Foundation (Stichting Lighthouse Reports)
About

Lighthouse Reports is a media non-profit based in Amsterdam. Their newsrooms are open to journalists from well-known outlets to independent makers. The collaboration is about learning new techniques, pooling knowledge, and tackling the kind of complex, ambitious stories that benefit from a team approach.

For established media, their newsrooms offer a space to experiment away from the pressure to immediately invest in new tools. For independent makers, their topic-based approach supports the kind of ambitious investigative journalism where it's daunting to go it alone. For donors, Lighthouse newsrooms offer the capacity to invest in innovative public-interest journalism without launching platforms, favouring individual outlets, or unbalancing media markets.

The objective of this foundation (stichting Lighthouse Reports) is to perform (academic) research into, and to promote, the democratic legal order. It shall endeavor to attain this goal by establishing research projects within and outside of Europe. And by establishing training courses and education as an integral part of the foundation’s projects, and furthermore, everything which is directly or indirectly related to or beneficial to the aforementioned, all of this in the broadest sense of the word.

They follow the journalism code of practice as formulated by The Fourth Estate. It recognizes three core principles that are fundamental to the ethical practice of journalism:

  • - Reporting the truth
  • - Ensuring tranparency
  • - Serving the community
