Lila Poonawalla Foundation (LPF) is a Charitable Trust registered in India, on October 9, 1995, vide Bombay Charitable Trust Act 1950, with the vision to contribute to the empowerment of Indian women by supporting academically outstanding and financially deserving girls, through scholarships to pursue education. Padmashree Mrs. Lila Poonawalla is the pioneer as well as the driving force behind the foundation. She recognized the need of providing financial assistance to young girls so that their destinies could be changed with higher education. In the year 1994 she laid the groundwork for ‘Lila Poonawalla Foundation’, which granted scholarships to 20 needy and deserving girls in its first year, i.e. in 1996.
Since its inception, LPF has given almost 12220 scholarships, and supported 5848 girls so far, for their education. Girls are granted scholarships for pursuing schooling, graduation, as well as post-graduation. Prominent educationists and specialists from Pune, including senior LPF scholarship awardees, form the highly motivated team of trustees and committee members of the foundation.
This foundation is unique in that it is like a family, which makes an all out effort to communicate regularly with all the LPF scholarship awardees and their family members, through regular interactions. The foundation has also been regularly conducting many personality development, technical training, health awareness and grooming programs for its girls, including spoken English, to ensure that they grow into empowered and confident young ladies. The girls are also assisted by LPF in obtaining internships while studying, as well as for securing jobs in various firms.
It is an organisation with leadership to energize young, talented and deserving girls to excel in their chosen field..

The foundation gives Scholarships to the girls from Pune, Amaravati and Wardha district.In Pune district LPF supports girls from school level until post graduation. In Amaravati and Wardha district scholarships are given for undergraduate studies. LPF scholarships are merit-cum-need based scholarships. The highlight of the foundation is that it gives an outright grant to all the girls who are selected by the foundation Trustees.
