An Giang Plant Protection Services Company (AGPPS) was incorporated in accordance with the decision by An Giang Province People’s Committee dated November 30, 1993, with a small facility, an initial investment capital of VND 750 million and 23 employees.
In 1996, with the operation of the Seed Research and Production Center, AGPPS officially penetrated in the potential seed research and business. With strong focus on knowledge and technology investment in rice variety research and breeding, AGPPS has gradually become the leading seed trader in Vietnam.
Also in 1996, AGPPS has boldly developed 2 crop chemical factories with a total capacity up to 5,000 tons per year with a variety of products. The development of such factories helped the company in selling cost reduction; improvements in the design were suitable for the taste of farmers; product quality and yield were stable, which helped the company to extend the distribution network and services for the farmers.
In 1999, after 6 years of operation, AGPPS raised its investment capital to as much as 57 times, with a turnover of VND 600 billion compared to VND 13 billion during the first years of incorporation, with payments to the national budget totalling VND 109.8 billion.
Fifteen years later since the idea to build the conglomerate was addressed, AGPPS has made sustainable development steps. The company was equitized in 2004 with the charter capital of VND 150 billion.
The company established the Toge-three agricultural engineers and developed the “Together with Farmers to the Field” Program in 2006, creating a quantum leap in making modern cultivation techniques available to farmers nationwide.
Started in 2006, the number of those agricultural engineers was 12, now it has soared to 1,300. Guinness Vietnam official recognized Loc Troi’s “To the Fields with Farmers” campaign as the biggest of its kind in Vietnam.
In 2010, the Food division of the company offically operated. The first large-scaled paddy fields were formed throughout the Mekong Delta region and the first rice value chain in Vietnam was gradually shaped.
In 2014, AGPPS raised its charter capital to VND 652.05 billion. AGPPS was the first company to succeed in issuing nearly 1.9 million shares to farmers. The company’s total asset value as of end 2014 reached VND 5,702 billion. The 2014 revenue of the company reached VND 8,846 billion, with a pre-tax profit of VND 701 billion. The total number of employees as of end 2014 was 3,439.
