Lokmitra is committed to ensuring that every child from disadvantageous section of society completes elementary education to become a constant learner and empowered member of the society. It envisions that all children grow to their fullest potential through effective school education system. Strategy of Lokmitra is to enable children to learn and develop through public education system by promoting improvement in Elementary Education System of Uttar Pradesh. Lokmitra inspires teachers to become reflective practitioner, inculcating the culture of peer learning and democratic management. Motivates parents and children to participate in school education and its governance to target learning outcomes. Lokmitra engages with public education system in multi-pronged and multi-level manner, generating effective ideas and practices for systemic and sustainable improvement.. In 15 years, Lokmitra has supported about 500 schools for 1 to 5 years. About 100 schools were supported periodically with pedagogy input. Out of them 30% schools have showed good progress in learning and enrolment. There has been about 20 to 40 percent point improvement in learning outcome and attendance in these schools in one academic year. A decade back Lokmitra innovated and pioneered the practice of Teachers Peer Learning and that of Federating School Management Committees at Block level and this practice is being replicates by many other NGOs. Currently Lokmitra is working in Raebareli, Banda, Jaunpur and Saharanpur with the support of Tata Trusts, ITC Ltd and Oxfam India. In next five years, Lokmitra aims is to improve the learning outcomes in at least 200 state government Primary & Upper Primary Schools and there by ensure good enrollment of all children with high attendance. It also aims to further strengthen Civil Society involvement for vitalizing governance of elementary education, especially through collective of SMC federation.
