About

Our world as we know it is defined by overpopulation and abject poverty.  Natural and man-made tragedies have made the world’s poor even poorer. The last decade has brought about the most devastating calamities our world has seen.   Earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanic eruptions, civil conflicts and wars are some of the life changing catastrophes that have plagued many developing countries in the world today.  These disastrous events have stripped people of their possessions and homes and have robbed them of their livelihoods and their dignities.

MADDEL’s mission statement is:
"To enhance the lives of people in need through care and easy-to-use technology"

The company offers shelter/housing, water and sanitation solutions for both emergency response and sustainable development.

EMERGENCY RESPONSE

SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

MADDEL Transitional Shelters
MADDEL Water & Sanitation

MADDEL Transformable Homes
MADDEL Communities and livelihood

Current models of relief and assistance by aid organizations, charities and donor communities have proven to be slow in helping the poor rebuild their lives. For example, current transitional shelter products like tents and tarpaulins are now regarded as inadequate solutions.  In fact, these products provide no security and privacy and therefore compromise the safety of women and children living in refugee camps or slum areas.

MADDEL is offering products that provide long-term cost effective solutions that are designed to empower the poor as they work to reconstruct the life that they lost.  By providing proprietary easy-to-use technology, MADDEL shelters more efficiently assist the poor in rebuilding their lives and restoring hope and dignity in their families again.

BACKGROUND

During the 1990's, a few Brisbane-based building industry people began to follow a common desire to use their talents to help others in real need. Having worked abroad in third-world and developing countries, the need for more effective provision of basic resources to enable people to take ownership of their lives was clear to be seen. In particular, the need by people and communities devastated by natural & man-made disasters. The idea of using simple technology solutions evolved into development of various shelter and building system prototypes and engagement with organisations in the Aid Industry.

In 2007, MADDEL International Pty Ltd was formed as a company and became the vehicle on which the humanitarian ideals, philosophies and enterprises of the founders' would be carried through to realisation.

The philosophy of MADDEL is to focus on the victims of the disaster and their propensity and capability to rebuild themselves. The moment they realise their calamity they become stripped of dignity, self-worth, hope and the will to go on and rebuild.

MADDEL believes the key to the victims being able to turn their situation around is for them to quickly find themselves in an improved circumstance; Dry, warm and in a space they can clearly claim as their own. Somewhere they can stow what little may be left of their life. MADDEL believes that at that moment, a glimmer of dignity hope will begin to re-appear. To this end, MADDEL has been steadily developing a range of shelters as resource that will satisfy that needs of the user and the logistical requirements of Aid Organisations, and providing a true instrument of hope for both victims and Aid Organistions alike.

With housing and community infrastructure buildings being completed by the people, the final element of the MADDEL package and philosophy is to work with the people to assess what skills and opportunities are latent within the community and how the people might nurture those skills and opportunities to develop a local micro-economy, and indeed, how that local economy might be expanded to become something more.
