About

Makerere University School of Public Health (MakSPH) is a leading public health institution in Uganda and within the East and Central Africa region. Founded in 1954 as a Department of Preventive Medicine, under the Faculty of Medicine, it became an Institute of Public Health in 1974 and was upgraded to the School of Public Health in 2007. MakSPH is one of the four Schools under Makerere University’s College of Health Sciences. The school has four departments including;

a) Health Policy, Planning and Management
b) Epidemiology and Biostatistics
c) Disease Control and Environmental Health
d) Community Health and Behavioural Sciences

VISION

To be a centre of excellence providing leadership in Public Health.

MISSION

To promote the attainment of better health for the people of Uganda and beyond through Public Health Training, Research and Community service, with the guiding principles of Quality, Relevance, Responsiveness, Equity and Social Justice.

CORE FUNCTIONS

They are inspired by their three core responsibilities of training in public health, conducting research and service delivery.
