Sixty-five years ago, Malteser International was founded in Germany as the official relief organization for the Order of Malta, a lay religious order, to further its mission of helping those most in need. As the Order’s worldwide humanitarian relief agency, Malteser International provides aid in response to natural disasters, epidemics, armed conflicts, and more. Since 1956, Malteser International has helped hundreds of thousands of people in more than 35 countries.
In 2008, Malteser International Americas was founded to further expand the organization’s mission in North, Central, and South America and the Caribbean. Since then, they have provided critical aid during catastrophic events throughout the region, including Hurricanes Matthew, Harvey, and Dorian; earthquake relief in Mexico and Haiti; refugee relief in Colombia; and more.
Through these efforts, they hope to achieve their central goal: ensuring everyone can lead a healthy life with dignity.
