Their idea is a simple one that works. They provide one daily meal in a place of education in order to attract chronically hungry children into a classroom, where they receive an education that can, in the future, be their ladder out of poverty.

Mary's Meals began by feeding 200 children in Malawi. Today they feed more than one million hungry children every day.

Their work is named after Mary, the mother of Jesus, who brought up her child in poverty. They consist of, respect and reach out to people of all faiths and none.

The average worldwide cost for them to feed a child for a whole school year is just £12.20/€14.50/$19.50. Wherever possible, Mary's Meals uses locally grown food to support the local economy. They work hard to keep the running costs low and to ensure that at least 93 percent of donations go on its  charitable work. This is only possible since most of their work is done by an army of volunteers.
