About

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), or Doctors without Borders, Chinese translates to Doctors Without Borders, is a humanitarian organization dedicated to providing medical assistance to people affected by armed conflicts, epidemics and infectious diseases, natural disasters, and people rejected by the healthcare system.

Their team is made up of tens of thousands of medical and non-medical professionals who subscribe to the Charter, including doctors, nurses, administrators, tropical diseases, laboratory technicians, mental health professionals, logisticians and water and sanitation experts, mainly local staff from the countries where the crisis occurred, with about 10% of international responders. Our actions are guided by medical ethics and the principles of independence, neutrality and impartiality. In addition, they are a non-profit, self-managed organization.

Originally formed by a group of doctors and journalists, the organization was founded in 1971 in Paris, France, to create an independent organization focused on emergency medical care and to give a voice to people's suffering. Since then, Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) has grown into a global movement and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1999. Today, we have 25 associations around the world and more than 40,000 frontliners around the world every day, helping people whose lives are threatened by violence, neglect or disaster.

They currently have operational centres in five cities (Amsterdam, Barcelona, Brussels, Geneva, Paris) that directly command the frontline project, and they are responsible for deciding when, where, what assistance is necessary, and when it is time to end a project. MSF International Headquarters was also established in Geneva, Switzerland, to coordinate operations among the five operational centres. The main work of the other offices is to recruit volunteers, raise funds and conduct public advocacy for those in need.
