About us
Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP) is dedicated to ensuring that every Palestinian has access to a comprehensive, effective, and locally-led healthcare system, enabling the full realization of their rights to health and dignity.
To achieve this mission, MAP collaborates with Palestinian communities and trusted local partners to address a wide range of health and social needs. The organization provides vital medical aid in emergencies and supports the long-term development of improved healthcare services. Additionally, MAP amplifies Palestinian voices and advocates for the removal of barriers to health and dignity caused by occupation, displacement, discrimination, and conflict.
A future in which all Palestinians can access an effective, sustainable, and locally-led healthcare system and fully realize their rights to health and dignity.
To work for the health and dignity of Palestinians living under occupation and as refugees.
The full realization of Palestinians' health and well-being potential, supported by a sustainable, high-quality, accessible, and locally-led healthcare system.
Between September 16 and 18, 1982, Lebanese Phalangist militants entered the Beirut refugee camp of Sabra and Shatila, killing and injuring hundreds of unarmed Palestinian and other civilians. Despite having full knowledge of the atrocities, the Israeli army, which had invaded Lebanon earlier that year and surrounded the camp, did not intervene. Instead, they illuminated the camp at night with flares launched from helicopters and mortars.
During the massacre, Dr. Swee Chai Ang, a young orthopedic surgeon from London, was working in a hospital inside the camp. Refusing to leave, she remained to treat the wounded and protect her patients. Upon returning to London, she and fellow medical professionals and humanitarians established Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP) to provide frontline medical care in Palestinian refugee camps by sending doctors and nurses to assist those in need.
Since its founding, MAP has worked closely with Palestinian communities to deliver locally-led health and medical care to those most affected by conflict, occupation, and displacement.
With offices in the West Bank, Gaza, Jerusalem, Lebanon, and London, MAP leverages its extensive local knowledge and experience to coordinate healthcare services, often navigating severe restrictions on access. The organization provides immediate medical aid in times of crisis while also building local capacity and skills to support the long-term development of the Palestinian healthcare system.
Beyond providing medical assistance, MAP remains committed to advocating against injustices that hinder Palestinians from fully enjoying their rights to health and dignity. The organization works to ensure that the voices of those impacted by occupation, displacement, and conflict are heard at the highest levels.
Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP) envisions a future in which all Palestinians have access to an effective, sustainable, and locally-led healthcare system, ensuring the full realization of their rights to health and dignity.
