Meki Catholic Secretariat (MCS), which was operational since 1995,is one of the 13 Secretariats of the Ethiopian Catholic Church.
The secretariat office is located between 40 10’N-90 00’N Latitude and 38020’E-44035’E Longitude in Oromiya National Regional State. MCS is found at a distance of 130Kms South East of the capital, Addis Ababa in East Shewa Zone, Dugda Woreda at Meki town.
The secretariat is composed of two wings namely the Pastoral Coordination Office of Meki (PACOM) located at Gighessa and Social Development Coordinating Office of Meki (SDCOM) located at Meki town.
The working area of MCS covers about 60,000.00 Km Sq. land with a population of about 3.7 million out of which 27,570 are Catholics. Administratively it covers the whole of Arsi and West Arsi zones and parts of East Shoa in Oromia National Regional State. In addition to these, it includes some parts of the South Nations Nationalities People Regional State (SNNPRS), and Alaba liyu Woreda. MCS plans are used to mobilize joint efforts to support the Integral and holistic development of the human persons in all fields such as education, health, water supply, income generation, food security, justice and peace. From 1995 to 2006, the focus was on providing humanitarian assistance and implementation of small scale scattered development projects. The first strategic plan was prepared to serve from 2006 -2011. Through this strategy it was possible to transfer from emergency recovery programs to more organized development interventions. The number of Woreda covered also increased from 5 in 2007 to 14 in 2012
