The Ministry of Technical Education was created in 1959, when the very first Government of the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire was formed. Its mission was to train managers, technicians and skilled workers that the country needed to take into account the emerging industrial sector and promote the development of the rural world.
Over the years, this ministerial department, which is re-entering the new Government, under a new name (METFPA) has certainly always been affiliated with the education-training sector, but has undergone changes with a change of name.
For example, from 1985 to 1995, this Ministry was split into two parts: the secondary cycle entrusted to the Ministry of National Education and the higher cycle to the Ministry of Education and Scientific Research, before regaining its integrity in 1996.
By decree n° 96-PR/002 of January 26, 1996 , President Henri Konan BEDIE, Head of State at the time, through this Ministry wishes, to allow each Ivorian to learn a trade to better face the third millennium.
Over the years, the Ministry of Technical Education and Vocational Training became State Secretariat to the Minister of National Education from 2017 to 2018 and 2019 to 2021.
In April 2021, following the formation of the new Government, this department affiliated with the education-training sector changed from the status of State Secretariat to that of the Ministry of Technical Education, Vocational Training and Apprenticeship (METFPA).
