About

The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Map) is responsible for the management of public policies to stimulate agriculture, for the promotion of agribusiness and for the regulation and regulation of services linked to the sector. In Brazil, agribusiness includes the small, medium and large rural producers and brings together activities to supply goods and services to agriculture, agricultural production, processing, processing and distribution of agricultural products to the final consumer.

Thus, the Ministry of Agriculture seeks to integrate under its management the market, technological, scientific, environmental and organizational aspects of the productive sector as well as the sectors of supply, storage and transport of crops, as well as the management of economic and financial policy for agribusiness. With the integration of sustainable development and competitiveness, the Map aims to guarantee the food security of the Brazilian population and the production of surplus for export, strengthening the national productive sector and favoring the insertion of Brazil in the international market.  

To achieve its objectives, the Map has a fixed structure of five secretariats, 27 state superintendencies and their respective units, a network of six laboratories, as well as two linked ones, the National Institute of Meteorology (INMET) and the Cacao Plantation (Ceplac), which shelter about 11 thousand servers spread throughout Brazil.

The Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa) and the National Supply Company (Conab) are public companies that act under the influence and coordination of the Map. They are also decentralized entities of the ministry, organized in the form of joint-stock companies, the Minas Gerais Supply Centers (Ceasa / MG), the Companhia de Armazéns e Silos de Minas Gerais (Casemg) and the Company of Warehouses and Warehouses General of São Paulo (Ceagesp). In addition, the ministry coordinates the actions and policies of 28 Sector Chambers and 8 Thematic Chambers related to the various productive sectors of Brazilian agribusiness.
