The Ministry of Public Security; created by Law No. 15 of April 14, 2010, has as Mission and Vision:
Determine the security policies of the country and to plan, coordinate, control and support the efforts of the security and intelligence departments that make up this Ministry.
Maintain and defend national sovereignty, ensure security, tranquility and public order in the country, as well as protect the life, honor and assets of its nationals and foreigners under its jurisdiction.
For the fulfillment of its functions, the Ministry of Public Security is empowered to:
Coordinate public safety services.
Coordinate the activity of the information and intelligence agencies of the estates that make up this Ministry for the purposes of public security in the country, in permanent coordination with the National Security Council.
Promote crime prevention policies and actions.
Establish protection and security policies and actions for those who are in the national territory.
Formulate and regulate policies for the prevention and scientific investigation of crime, which affect the community quantitatively or qualitatively.
Collect information and analyze studies or proposals to prevent and avoid any danger, threat or aggression against independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Promote the adaptation of the public security services equipment for the performance of its functions.
Coordinate and regulate matters related to private security companies, armed companies and explosives in the country.
Coordinate and supervise with other foreign public security institutions or services the execution of international agreements and conventions in which the Republic of Panama is a signatory.
Promote the professional training of your human resource.
Regulate the special disciplinary regime of the public security services.
Exercise the other functions established by law.
