After the Declaration of Independence, on 4 December 1912 the Government was formed, with Prime Minister Ismail Qemali. Minister of Agriculture was appointed Mr. Pandeli Cale, who is also the first minister of this department.
The Ministry of Agriculture functioned as such until 3 September 1914. After that date, until June 1927, the agricultural, forestry and mineral activities in Albania were carried out by the Ministry of World Affairs. In 1927, Parliament, taking into account the importance of this branch for the national economy, recreated the Ministry of Agriculture with Minister Ferid Vokopola and with a functional structure: Minister, Secretary General and Director: Agriculture, Veterinary, Forestry and Administration. The institution that covered agriculture there were different denominations, depending on the country's socio-economic development.
Thus at the end of 1929, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry was renamed Ministry of National Economy with Minister Mr. Musa Juka.
In this period, there were agriculture, veterinary, chambers of commerce and forest inspectors in each prefecture.
As well as zootechnical stations like in Xhafzotaj and two nurseries one in Lapraka - (Tirana) and the other Bushat - (Shkodra).
In 1940 the label changed again, being called the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.
In the 1940s to 1944 the Ministry of Agriculture joined the Ministry of National Economy.
On 13.01.1945 the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry was once again established.
First Minister after Liberation was Prof.Gaqo Tashko. From 1960 until back to 1992 the institution was called the Ministry of Agriculture. The forestry sector was the special director under this ministry.
With the fundamental changes that took place in the 1990s, starting on 13.04.1992, the Ministry of Agriculture joined the food sector of the Ministry of Light Industry and Food, creating the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, a name which still holds it today.

The first organization of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry on March 1, 1946, had 138 people.
The longer stay of the Minister was Mr. Thomas Thomson for 14 years, being currently the first and only Minister in this sector.
The structure of the Ministry of Agriculture has constantly undergone changes, though not essential. From 1912 to 2002, the Ministry of Agriculture was run by 36 ministers.
