Overview

With the aim of building a modern and beautiful defense system for Bangladesh, the Ministry of Defense of independent Bangladesh was formed at the end of December 1971, in keeping with the conviction of the greatest Bengali father of the nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The Ministry was shifted from the Secretariat in 1972 to the High Court Building and in 1993 to its present building in Ganabhavan Complex, Sher-i-Bangla Nagar. At the initial stage, the ministry was formed with 14 departments/organizations, but currently, this ministry is being managed with 25 departments/organizations. In the organizational structure of the ministry, the previous 224 posts have been increased and now the total number of posts is 232.

The Honorable Prime Minister of the People's Republic of Bangladesh is in charge of the Ministry of Defense. Using modern technology, As a part of timely work-initiatives and realistic and long-term action plans, this ministry and its departments/organizations are working with sincerity and dedication. Capacity building and modernization of the Ministry of Defense and the military and civilian institutions under its jurisdiction will make the efforts to build an independent-sovereign, happy, prosperous and progressive Bangladesh stronger and stronger. 

National development and modernization is an ongoing and continuous process. For national prosperity, progress and socio-economic development, the Ministry of Defense is working with the aim of making the various programs undertaken by various departments/organizations under its purview as an integral part of national progress by formulating specific, integrated and effective action plans. The Ministry of Defense is committed to playing its role in consolidating the foundations of national progress and in maintaining a stable, happy and prosperous nation-state.
