The Ministry of Demography, Family, Youth and Social Policy performs administrative and other tasks related to monitoring and analysis of demographic trends and trends in the Republic of Croatia, in particular changes in population, natural population movements, migration and population structure; proposes measures aimed at increasing the birth rate, balancing the age structure, maintaining the spatial balance of the population; motivating young people to stay in Croatia, supportive parenting measures and measures aimed at reconciling family and professional life; coordinates the work of state and other bodies in the pursuit of demographic and population policy activities; proposes to the Government of the Republic of Croatia changes of laws and other regulations in the field of demographic policy; performs activities aimed at raising awareness and educating citizens on the importance of demographic issues and population revitalization;

The Ministry performs administrative and professional counseling activities related to: marriage and marital relations and special protection of families in which relationships are broken; parent-child relationships; protection of children whose parents live separately, protection of children without proper parental care, encouragement of responsible parenting, support and care of family members; encouraging the development of community work programs, the development and affirmation of volunteerism and the work of citizens' associations supporting parents, families, children, young people, people with disabilities and the elderly and all socially vulnerable groups of the population; encouraging and setting up counseling centers for children, young people, parents, persons with disabilities, the elderly and victims of domestic violence, and carrying out professional and inspection supervision of their work;

The Ministry performs administrative and professional tasks related to improving and improving the quality of life of young people and building a comprehensive, comprehensive and inter-ministerial youth policy, which includes: proposing and implementing strategic documents, laws, other acts, programs and projects in the field of youth policy and their monitoring and evaluation, especially in the field of youth partnership involvement in decision-making processes, non-formal education, leisure and youth culture, volunteering and participation in civil society development, promotion of political participation and protection of human rights, information, mobility and quality assurance; regular support to the organized youth sector and its operation.The Ministry develops measures and programs that work to prevent the social exclusion of young people and give them a basis for a complete, creative and dignified life in their youth.

The Ministry performs administrative and professional tasks related to: care for persons and families who do not have sufficient resources to meet their basic needs or need help in order to eliminate the causes of social vulnerability; establishing a network of social care homes and institutions, family centers and a network of activities and coordinating their work and providing professional assistance; conducting administrative, inspection and professional supervision of the work of social welfare institutions and family centers; deciding on the establishment, termination and status changes of social welfare institutions and family centers; disseminating and analyzing data on beneficiaries in the welfare system and producing statistical surveys and reports; promoting the rights of persons with disabilities, raising the quality of their life and developing non-institutional forms of care for persons with disabilities; Encouraging legal projects to improve the quality of life of older persons and developing service activities for their needs, developing non-institutional forms of care for the elderly, performing other care activities for the elderly who are not under the jurisdiction of other bodies; protection of victims of trafficking in human beings; protection of refugees and ensuring the integration of asylum seekers and persons under subsidiary protection, protection of children and young adults with behavioral disorders and inclusion in daily life after a longer stay in a correctional facility; rehabilitation and re-socialization of addicts and prevention of all forms of addiction; administrative and professional affairs related to foster care and adoption;

The Ministry, as the line ministry, participates in the management and disposal of shares and business shares of state-owned companies owned by the Republic of Croatia, in respect of companies predominantly engaged in activities within the area of ​​competence of the line ministry established by this Act.

The Ministry performs tasks related to the participation of the Republic of Croatia in the work of the bodies of the European Union in the areas within its competence.

The Ministry also performs other tasks that are within its competence by a separate law.
