Ministry of Economy and Finance (Burkina Faso)
About

The economic and financial administrations of Burkina have evolved over time, with the strengthening of the economic role and the public power of the State.

From an essentially state and cadastral administration and tax collection under colonization, the administration in charge of finance and the budget has today become an instrument for driving economic, financial and budgetary policy, and for regulating of economic activity. It exercises in its attributions, the essential of the sovereign functions under the leadership of the Minister of Economy and Finance.

The Department now has some 3,500 public officials spread throughout the territory, through its regional directorates which exercise their jurisdiction over three or four provinces on average.

The Ministry of Economy and Finance in its current configuration results from the consolidation of former ministerial departments responsible in particular for financial resources, planning and cooperation and the budget, and carries out a more functional reorganization of services around three major economic functions

mobilization of internal and external financial resources to support development activities;

the pursuit of sustainable economic development, through. conducting economic strategies and programs;

the optimum distribution of the financial resources of the State and the control of their use through the execution of the various finance laws.

In carrying out these missions, the efforts of the Administration of Economy and Finance have tended in recent years towards the conduct of structural reforms and towards a gradual liberalization of the economy, through a gradual withdrawal from the state of the productive sectors.
