The Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development is responsible for the following:
-Execution of national policies for the sustainable management of the environment and the preservation of biodiversity and ecosystems;
-Development, monitoring and evaluation of implementation plans for said policies;
-Sustainable management of forests, water resources, wildlife resources and the environment;
-Evaluation and monitoring of environmental and social studies of any project likely to harm the environment;
-Regulation of any activity likely to harm the environment, biodiversity, ecosystems as well as health rules;
-Development and application of standards relating to environmental sanitation;
-Creation and development of green areas and amusement parks;
-Development of standards relating to respect for the environment in the mining, quarrying and
hydrocarbon sectors;
-Regulation of hunting and fishing, if necessary in collaboration with the Ministry having Fisheries
in its attributions;
-Protection of fauna and flora;
-Promotion and coordination of any activity relating to the conservation of nature as well as the sustainable management of the environment, forest, wildlife and aquatic resources;
-Environmental monitoring and auditing of public establishments and private companies as well as
non-governmental organizations working in the environment and nature conservation sectors;
-Determination and management of ecosystems;
-Management of environmental services;
-Creation of protected areas other than strict nature reserves and proposals for the creation of the
latter;
-Creation and management of wildlife species capture stations;
-Development, extension and management of environmental education programs
